The incident reportedly occurred inside the Timber Ridge gated community area in the 5300-block of Aeropark Drive shortly after 7:30 a.m.

One officer was fatally shot and the other was wounded as they served a narcotics-related arrest warrant. The officers returned fire, shooting and killing the suspect.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner stated that the officers, who are part of the department’s Major Offenders Fugitive Warrant Team, knocked on the door of a suspect wanted on narcotics charges.

A woman answered the door and that’s when the suspect appeared and opened fire on the officers.

Senior Police Officer William “Bill” Jeffrey was airlifted to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. Officer Michael Vance was taken to the hospital by ambulance and as of last check-in, was undergoing surgery.

As of this writing, police have not yet formally identified the suspect, however KHOU 11 has identified him as 30-year-old Deon Ledet. Police said there were children in the home at the time, but the woman and kids were not physically injured during the violent incident.
